Advisory and specialist services

Your monthly fee covers the accounts, the tax returns and the filings. This is the other work: the one-off, high-stakes projects that come up a handful of times in the life of a business, and that cost you dearly if they are handled badly.
Valuing a company before a sale. Defending an HMRC investigation. Passing a business to your children without a 40% bill landing on them. Bringing key staff into ownership. Untangling a shareholder dispute.
Each is priced individually, because each is genuinely different. What they have in common is that the decisions are large, mostly irreversible, and usually made once.
Where most business owners go wrong
Not by choosing badly. By not knowing there was a choice.
The owner who discovers at 62 that their pension is now inside their estate. The one who accepts an offer for their company without ever having it valued. The one who gets an HMRC letter and answers it themselves, helpfully, and says too much. The one who promises equity to a key employee on a handshake and creates a tax charge for both of them.
None of that is stupidity. It is simply work that sits outside what an accountant normally does for you, and so nobody ever raised it.
We raise it.
What we do
Inheritance Tax & Succession Planning
From April 2027 your unused pension is pulled into your estate for Inheritance Tax. From April 2026, Business Property Relief on your company shares is capped. Most business owners have not been told, and the planning window is closing.

What your business is actually worth, evidenced properly. For a sale, a share transfer, an investor, a divorce, probate, or a dispute. The number matters, and so does being able to defend it.

If HMRC has written to you, do not reply until you have spoken to someone. We deal with enquiries, discovery assessments, nudge letters and serious fraud investigations, and we deal with HMRC so you do not have to.
Read more→AdvisoryShare Schemes (EMI and Growth Shares)
Give your key people a real stake without handing over cash or control. EMI eligibility was widened significantly in April 2026, so many companies that could not use it before now can.

When a business relationship breaks down, the numbers become the battleground. We value disputed shareholdings, investigate what actually happened, and give evidence that stands up.
Read more→Why us for this work
We are a regulated firm, not a scheme promoter. We do not sell insurance products, we do not take commission, and we have no investment book to fill. If we do not think a piece of work will earn back its fee, we will tell you, and we would rather say so early than invoice you for it.
We are also the people who already do your accounts, which matters more than it sounds. Advisory work done by a stranger who has never seen your numbers takes twice as long and misses things.
What it costs
Advisory work is priced individually, because the work genuinely differs every time. A valuation for a small share transfer and a valuation for a company sale are not the same job.
What we will always do is tell you the fee before we start, and tell you what drives it. No open-ended hourly billing that quietly runs away with itself.
Complex tax advice and advanced planning are included in Xpert Growth+.
Advisory: frequently asked questions
Do I need to be an existing client?+
No. We take on advisory projects for businesses who have their own accountant, and we work alongside them rather than trying to poach the compliance work. Many advisory clients do end up moving to us, but that is their choice, not the price of admission.
How is this different from what my accountant already does?+
Most accountants do compliance: the accounts, the tax return, the filings. That is necessary and it is what your monthly fee buys. Advisory is the work that comes up occasionally and changes outcomes materially: what the business is worth, how it passes on, what happens when HMRC comes knocking. It is a different job.
Is advisory included in my package?+
Growth+ includes complex tax advice and advanced planning. Essential and Professional include free basic advice, with specialist project work quoted separately. We will always tell you which side of the line something falls on before we do it.
How quickly can you help with an HMRC investigation?+
Quickly, and please do not wait. The most damaging mistakes in an HMRC enquiry are usually made in the first reply, before anyone has taken advice. Call us before you respond.
Not sure whether any of this applies to you?
That is usually the moment it does. One conversation will tell you either way, and it is free.
